Burnley grew up where the River Brun meets the River Calder, and its name probably means "meadow by the River Brun". Once the Leeds and Liverpool Canal arrived in 1796, dozens of new mills followed, and at its peak the town was one of the world's largest producers of cotton cloth. The old mills and warehouses of the Weavers' Triangle still cluster along the canal, just west of the town centre.

Straight Mile, crooked piles

Got a loft in Briercliffe that's taller with boxes every year, or a shed in Harle Syke that's had its day? Post the job for free and licensed, insured local carriers send you quotes. You pay once your waste has been collected, and every job comes with a waste transfer note, kept in your account.
