Rochdale sits in the valley of the River Roch, with the South Pennines rising behind it. It has made cloth since the 1500s, wool first and then cotton, which turned it into one of the world's leading cotton towns. Look up at the town hall, a Gothic Revival showpiece opened in 1871, then follow the Rochdale Canal, which opened in 1804 as the first route over the Pennines between Lancashire and Yorkshire.

Down the dale, up the loft

A loft full of boxes in a red-brick terrace in Deeplish, or a stone one in Spotland that needs emptying before a move: that's what people post here. Posting a job is free, and licensed, insured local carriers send you quotes. You pay once your waste has been collected, and every job comes with a waste transfer note, kept in your account.
