Stockport is where the Goyt and the Tame join to become the River Mersey, and that water powered its mills. Its first silk mill opened in 1732, cotton followed, and by 1884 the town was turning out more than six million hats a year. The hatting story is still told at Hat Works, the UK's only dedicated hatting museum.

Emptying a grandparent's house in Reddish, a garage in Offerton or a spare room in Edgeley starts the same way: post the job for free, and licensed, insured local carriers send you quotes. You pay once your waste has been collected, and every job comes with a waste transfer note, kept in your account.

Brick by brick, together

20% of what we earn on every job goes to good causes in your local area. Two examples of the local causes the programme is for: the Stockport Plaza, a charity restoring and running the town's Art Deco super cinema and variety theatre, and Age UK Stockport, which gives older people free, expert information, help after hospital and social activities.
