Wigan became a borough in 1246, by a charter from Henry III. Coal and water made the town: the Douglas Navigation of the 1740s and then the Leeds and Liverpool Canal carried its coal, and cotton mills spread through Wigan after 1800. Wigan Pier, made famous by George Orwell, is now a heritage and cultural quarter, and Haigh Hall sits in 250 acres of woodland and parkland.

Pier pressure, lifted

A garage in Pemberton, a terrace in Hindley or a loft in Aspull that's been filling up for years: post the job for free, and licensed, insured local carriers send you quotes. You pay once your waste has been collected, and every job comes with a waste transfer note, kept in your account.

A town that turns up

20% of what we earn on every job goes to good causes in your local area. Wigan Youth Zone, with its climbing wall, skate park and music studios for 8 to 19-year-olds, and Wigan & Leigh Hospice, which gives palliative and end-of-life care across the borough, show the kind of local causes the programme is for.
