Sheffield made its name in cutlery and steel, and in 1912 Harry Brearley invented stainless steel here, bringing affordable cutlery to ordinary homes. Five rivers meet in the city: the Don, Sheaf, Rivelin, Loxley and Porter. It became a city in 1893, and you don't have to go far for fresh air, since roughly a third of Sheffield lies inside the Peak District National Park.

Seven hills, give or take

An old wardrobe in Crookes, a cellar in Nether Edge or a garage in Hillsborough, however steep the street: posting the job is free, and licensed, insured local carriers send you quotes. You pay once your waste has been collected, and every job comes with a waste transfer note, kept in your account.

Made of stainless stuff

20% of what we earn on every job goes to good causes in your local area. For a flavour of what that means, look at Sheffield & Rotherham Wildlife Trust, which looks after nature reserves and helps rivers like the Sheaf recover, and Age UK Sheffield, which offers older people free advice, dementia services and wellbeing activities. Both are examples of the local causes the programme is for. Find out more about our 20% pledge
