Torquay was a small fishing settlement beside Torre Abbey, founded in 1196, until the Napoleonic Wars, when the Channel Fleet sheltered in Tor Bay and well-off visitors came for the mild climate. The Victorians made it the English Riviera, with grand villas and cabbage trees, the Torbay palms, first brought over from New Zealand in 1820. Agatha Christie was born here.

Riviera villas, real-life clutter

A holiday flat in Babbacombe between guests, a bungalow in Shiphay or a garage in St Marychurch: post the job for free and licensed, insured local carriers send you quotes. You pay once your waste has been collected, and every job comes with a waste transfer note, kept in your account.

A bay full of good people

20% of what we earn on every job goes to good causes in your local area. Around Tor Bay, think of Rowcroft Hospice, which brings specialist care to patients at home and on its ward, and Torquay Museum, which tells 400 million years of the bay's story, Agatha Christie included. Both show the kind of local causes the programme is for. Find out more about our 20% pledge
