York began in AD 71 as Eboracum, a Roman fortress where the Ouse meets the Foss. The Vikings renamed it Jorvik and made it a thriving trading town, and by 1900 railways and confectionery, from makers like Rowntree's and Terry's, were its two big industries. Its minster, castle and city walls are all Grade I listed, so there's history round every corner.

Plundering your loft, politely

There's always something: a garage in Haxby, a spare room in Acomb, a whole house in Clifton waiting to be cleared. Post the job for free and licensed, insured local carriers send you quotes. You pay once your waste has been collected, and every job comes with a waste transfer note, kept in your account.
