Southport was little more than dunes at a spot called South Hawes until 1792, when William Sutton, an innkeeper from Churchtown, built a bathing house there. Sea bathing brought the visitors, and by the Victorian era it was a fully fledged resort. Its pier, opened in 1860, is still the second longest seaside pleasure pier in the British Isles.

Promenade-ready, room by room

Some jobs are one wardrobe from a house in Hillside; others are a whole cottage in Churchtown or a garage in Crossens. Either way, posting is free, and licensed, insured local carriers send you quotes. You pay once your waste has been collected, and every job comes with a waste transfer note, kept in your account.

20% of what we earn on every job goes to good causes in your local area. On this stretch of coast, Queenscourt Hospice, which gives free specialist care to adults with life-limiting illnesses, and Freshfields Animal Rescue, which takes in abandoned pets, farm animals and injured wildlife, show the kind of local causes the programme exists for.
