House clearance in Wolverhampton

Emptying a house in Penn or Finchfield, or a rented flat at the end of a tenancy? Post photos of each room, and the loft and garage too, and licensed collectors we’ve checked will quote.

We record who takes it and where it’s going before anything leaves, and you pay only once it’s cleared.

Wolverhampton has 557 registered upper-tier waste carriers on the Environment Agency public register.

What we do on every job

The law makes you responsible for who takes your waste. Book through scrapmarket and the checks and the paperwork are done for you:

  • We check the collector’s waste carrier licence on the Environment Agency register before they can quote, and again every night. If it lapses, they can’t quote.
  • We check their insurance, and their photo ID against a selfie.
  • When they collect, they record their van’s registration and the licensed site your waste is going to.
  • Your waste transfer note is made for you when you confirm the collection, and kept in your account.
  • We pay the collector only once we’ve reviewed proof that your waste got to that site.
  • If your waste is ever fly-tipped anyway, we’ll report the collector to the Environment Agency and the council, and cover any fine. Here’s how that works.

The council doesn’t do house clearances

City of Wolverhampton Council says plainly that it doesn’t offer a house clearance service. Its bulky item collection takes up to nine items a visit, plus up to ten black bags of dry household waste, and only what you listed when you booked. Up to three electrical items are collected separately, on a Friday. Both are charged.

It isn’t open to landlords clearing a rented property either: the council treats that as commercial waste. The crew won’t go inside, and won’t take kitchen units, bathroom suites, doors, building materials, soil, rubble or timber.

Recycling centres near Wolverhampton

The city’s two tips take household waste from Wolverhampton homes only, brought by the people who live there. Trade waste is refused, and the council counts landlords as trade.

A van, pick-up or trailer needs a Tip Visit booked first. When you book, you confirm the waste isn’t being disposed of for payment by someone else. Weekday slots are 30 minutes, with fewer at weekends. High-sided vans, 1.8 metres and over, can come only between 10.30am and 3.30pm, booked a day ahead. DIY waste is limited to less than 100 litres, four times in four weeks.

Landlords and end-of-tenancy clearances

When a tenant moves out and leaves things behind, the council says that waste becomes trade waste, and it’s the landlord’s duty to have it removed properly: by a licensed waste carrier, with a waste transfer note showing what it was and where it went.

When you post, choose “From a home, but I don’t live there”. The checks and the transfer note are the same as on every job. Our Zero Fly-Tip Promise is narrower: it covers household waste from your own home, as our Terms explain.

How it works for a full house

  1. Take photos of each room, and the loft, garage or shed if they’re part of it.
  2. Say what’s staying, so nobody quotes for it.
  3. Add access notes: stairs, parking, keys, anything that needs taking apart.
  4. Collectors quote. Ask them questions by message on scrapmarket, then choose one and agree the day.
  5. When it’s done, confirm the collection in your account. That’s when you’re charged, and your waste transfer note is issued.

What can go, and what can’t

Furniture, mattresses, carpets, clothes, kitchen and bathroom units, non-cooling appliances such as washing machines, small electricals and general household rubbish can all go.

We can’t take fridges or freezers, TVs or monitors, asbestos, gas bottles, paint, chemicals or clinical waste. Your council’s recycling centre takes most of these. When you buy a new appliance, the shop must take your old one of the same type back free of charge, or offer a free way to drop it off.

Reuse first

Furniture in good condition, books, clothes and kitchenware can often go to charity shops or local reuse schemes. Take out anything of value and any personal papers before collectors arrive: they quote to take waste away, not to value it.

Probate, landlord and end-of-tenancy clearances

If you’re clearing a home you don’t live in, as an executor or a landlord, the paperwork matters more. Every job gets a waste transfer note, kept in your account. Landlords, businesses and anyone clearing a home they don’t live in must keep it for two years.

The note shows who took the waste and where it went. If anything is ever questioned, that’s your evidence.

If you hire someone yourself

You’d need to make the checks on your own: look up their licence on the Environment Agency register (our free checker does it in seconds), note their van registration, ask where your waste is going, and keep a waste transfer note. Through scrapmarket, that’s all done for you.

Questions

Will the council clear a whole house?
No. City of Wolverhampton Council says it doesn’t offer a house clearance service, and its bulky collection stops at nine items and ten bags a visit. A whole house is a job for a licensed collector.
I’m a landlord. Can I use the tip for a tenant’s leftovers?
No. The council treats waste left by a tenant as trade waste, and the tips refuse trade waste, landlords included. It has to go with a licensed waste carrier, with a transfer note. Post the job and a checked, licensed collector quotes.
Do I need to be home?
Not necessarily. When you post, say how easy it is to reach and add any access notes, then agree the details with your collector by message. Afterwards you confirm the collection in your account, and that’s when you’re charged.
What can’t you take?
Asbestos, fridges or freezers, TVs or monitors, plasterboard, tyres, gas bottles, car batteries, fluorescent tubes, paint or chemicals, and clinical waste. When you post a job, we’ll tell you if anything can’t go.
What if my waste is fly-tipped?
We take all the steps to catch any cowboy collectors. Their licence, insurance and ID are checked before they can quote, their number plate and the waste centre your collection is going to are recorded before your waste leaves, and they’re only paid once we’ve seen proof of legal disposal. If anything went wrong, we’d report them to the Environment Agency and the council, and cover any fines you incur. The details are in our Terms.
