Shaw Road recycling centre: opening times, booking and what it takes

Shaw Road is one of Wolverhampton’s two tips, in the north of the city near Bushbury. The council runs it itself.

In a car you don’t need to book: come any time it’s open, with ID showing you live in Wolverhampton. It has the city’s bigger donation point for furniture worth reusing.

Opening times

DaysOpen
Monday to Sunday8am to 4pm

Shaw Road opens seven days a week, 8am to 4pm, all year. The council’s tips page and its site map agree.

On foot, you can only come in on weekdays from 8am to 10am and 2pm to 4pm, and at weekends from 8am to 10am, with a member of staff alongside you.

No bank holiday or Christmas arrangements are published, and no last entry time.

Booking and proof of address

Cars don’t book. Vans, pick-ups, cars towing a trailer and other larger vehicles do: a Tip Visit, through the council’s My Account. Slots are 30 minutes, about ten a weekday and fewer at weekends. When you book, you confirm it’s your own household waste from a Wolverhampton home and that nobody is being paid to get rid of it.

The council asks for ID in more than one way on its pages: photo ID showing your address, or photo ID plus proof of address. For a booked van or trailer it asks for two: one with a photo, and a recent household bill. Bring both to be safe.

Vans, trailers and the height barrier

A van or trailer is let in only with its Tip Visit booking. If you borrow one, the owner books. A hire vehicle is fine if you say so when booking and bring the agreement; a company van needs a letter on company paper saying it’s carrying your household waste.

The height barrier sits at 1.8 metres. Anything that tall or taller must book 24 hours ahead and come between 10.30am and 3.30pm, when the barrier can be lifted.

Can’t get a slot, no van, or it won’t take it?

Post the job with a few photos and checked, licensed collectors quote to take it away. You choose, and you pay once it’s gone.

On every job we check the collector’s licence, insurance and ID, record their number plate and where your waste is going before it leaves, issue your waste transfer note, and pay them only once we’ve seen proof it was disposed of legally.

Tips for a smooth visit

  • Bring photo ID that shows your Wolverhampton address, and a bill too if you’re in a van.
  • Keep DIY waste under two 50-litre bags a visit.
  • Put good wooden or metal furniture aside for the donation point.
  • High-sided van? Book a day ahead and come between 10.30am and 3.30pm.

Questions

Do I need to book Shaw Road tip?
Not in a car. Vans, pick-ups and cars with trailers must book a Tip Visit through the council’s My Account.
What time does Shaw Road tip open?
8am to 4pm, seven days a week. People on foot can come only at set times: 8am to 10am every day, and 2pm to 4pm on weekdays.
How much DIY waste can I take?
Under 100 litres a visit, about two 50-litre bags, and no more than four DIY visits in four weeks. It has to be from work you did yourself at your own home.
I’m a landlord. Can I bring a tenant’s leftovers?
No. The council counts it as trade waste, which the tips refuse. It needs a licensed waste carrier: post the job on scrapmarket and checked collectors quote.
