Fryers Road recycling centre: opening times, booking and what it takes

Fryers Road, in Bloxwich, is the older of Walsall’s two tips, run by SUEZ for the council. It’s the only one of the two that takes asbestos, with a permit.

It will close for redevelopment at some point, but no date has been set, and the council says it stays open until the plans are final.

Checked on 9 October 2026

This centre is run by SUEZ, for Walsall Council, not scrapmarket. Check the council’s page before you go.

Before you go

Walsall Council’s page for Fryers Road has stopped showing opening hours. Its August 2026 notice says only that the site kept its normal hours over the bank holiday. We couldn’t confirm the current hours, so we don’t list them: check the council’s page, or its live queue camera, before you go.

Opening times

What the council has published: the site is closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, and opens on other bank holidays. In 2026 it opened as normal at Easter, on the May bank holiday and on the August one.

Christmas 2026 hasn’t been announced.

Booking and proof of address

In a car there’s nothing to book. A van or trailer must be booked at least one clear working day ahead, and only one van or trailer visit a month is allowed. The council’s page says to contact it to make the appointment; we didn’t find an online form.

Fryers Road is for Walsall residents only. Bring a photocard driving licence, a council tax letter or a recent utility bill. You can’t walk in with waste.

Vans, trailers and the height barrier

Vans and pick-ups can weigh no more than 2.5 tonnes gross, vehicle and waste together, and nothing longer than 6 metres gets in. Large commercial-style trailers are refused. 4x4s, people carriers and wheelchair-accessible vehicles come in like cars.

At busy times you may be asked to wait while bin lorries tip. The council mentions no height barrier.

Can’t get a slot, no van, or it won’t take it?

Post the job with a few photos and checked, licensed collectors quote to take it away. You choose, and you pay once it’s gone.

On every job we check the collector’s licence, insurance and ID, record their number plate and where your waste is going before it leaves, issue your waste transfer note, and pay them only once we’ve seen proof it was disposed of legally.
