Middlemore Lane recycling centre: opening times, booking and what it takes
Middlemore Lane in Aldridge is Walsall’s new tip. It opened on 2 February 2026, about half a mile from the old Merchants Way site, which closed the day before.
SUEZ runs it for the council. It’s built on two levels, with a Re-Use Shop that anyone can visit.
Checked on 9 October 2026
This centre is run by SUEZ, for Walsall Council, not scrapmarket. Check the council’s page before you go.

Before you go
Merchants Way has closed: Middlemore Lane replaced it in February 2026.
Please don’t queue on Middlemore Lane itself. The council’s page has a live camera so you can see how busy it is before you set off.

Booking and proof of address
Cars come in without booking. Vans and trailers book at least one clear working day before, by contacting the council, and can visit once a month.
It’s for Walsall residents, and you show proof at the gate: a photocard driving licence, a council tax letter or a recent utility bill. The Re-Use Shop is open to everyone.

Vans, trailers and the height barrier
The van rules match Fryers Road: 2.5 tonnes gross at most, nothing over 6 metres long, and no large commercial trailers. 4x4s and people carriers come in as cars, and wheelchair-accessible vehicles are welcome.
If you need help unloading, ask at the meet-and-greet point; there’s no need to arrange it ahead. Walkers and cyclists can use the Re-Use Shop but not the tip.

What it takes and what it refuses
| Item | Takes it? | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Sofas and armchairs | Yes | Furniture is taken. The Re-Use Shop only takes upholstered furniture with its fire safety label still on. |
| Mattresses | Yes | On the upper level. Not for the Re-Use Shop. |
| Fridges and freezers | Yes | On the lower level, with large appliances. |
| Plasterboard | Yes | On the upper level. No limit is published. |
| Rubble and soil | Yes | Soil, rubble and hardcore, on the upper level. No limit is published. |
| Tyres | Limited | Up to four car tyres. |
| Asbestos | No | Only Fryers Road takes it, with a permit. |
| Trade waste | No | A scheme for small traders was promised for summer 2026, but no details had been published when we checked. |
The list is long: garden waste, wood and wooden doors, uPVC windows, carpets, metal, glass, paper and cardboard, hard plastics, electricals and TVs, light bulbs, batteries and vapes (kept apart), paint, oils, chemicals and gas bottles, plus books, toys, tools, bikes and sports kit for reuse.
The council’s pages don’t say whether DIY waste is charged; see the council’s page.

Can’t get a slot, no van, or it won’t take it?
Post the job with a few photos and checked, licensed collectors quote to take it away. You choose, and you pay once it’s gone.
On every job we check the collector’s licence, insurance and ID, record their number plate and where your waste is going before it leaves, issue your waste transfer note, and pay them only once we’ve seen proof it was disposed of legally.
