Perry Barr recycling centre: opening times, booking and what it takes
Perry Barr recycling centre is on Holford Drive in the north of Birmingham. Veolia and the council rebuilt it, together with the waste transfer station next to it, so the tip is now all on one level with more parking.
It’s for Birmingham residents, and every visit is booked.

This centre is run by Veolia, for Birmingham City Council, not scrapmarket. Check the council’s page before you go.

Opening times
| When | Days | Open |
|---|---|---|
| During the bin strike | Monday to Friday | 7am to 9pm |
| During the bin strike | Saturday, Sunday | 8am to 6pm |
Birmingham’s five centres share these hours, which the council and Veolia both describe as extended for the bin strike. They don’t publish a last entry time, bank holiday hours or what will happen to the hours after the strike.
Christmas 2026 hasn’t been announced. In 2025 the centres were closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day and open the rest of the holiday.

Booking and proof of address
Book a 15-minute slot before you set off: anyone who turns up without one is turned away. Cars, and trailers up to 6ft by 4ft, use the car form, up to 6 days ahead. Vans, minibuses and bigger trailers use the van form, up to 7 days ahead. Either way the earliest is 2 hours before, and you can hold two bookings.
At the gate you show proof of a Birmingham address: driving licence, council tax bill or utility bill, paper or digital. There’s no entry on foot.

Vans, trailers and the height barrier
A van or a large trailer needs its own slot from the van booking system. Minibuses book as vans even with the seats in, and so do people carriers or campervans with the seats taken out. Hire vans are allowed with the hire papers. A fair use policy applies, and van visits can’t bring asbestos, tree trunks, plaster, or large amounts of soil or rubble.
The height limit is 2.1 metres. For a high-top van, book Tyseley.

What it takes and what it refuses
| Item | Takes it? | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Sofas and armchairs | Yes | Sofas and upholstered furniture are on Veolia’s bulky waste list. A separate container for them isn’t mentioned, so ask on the day. |
| Mattresses | Yes | |
| Fridges and freezers | Yes | |
| Plasterboard | Not stated | Not on Veolia’s lists for car visits, either way. Van bookings can’t bring plaster. |
| Rubble and soil | Limited | Up to eight 25kg bags, or the same amount loose, a visit. Not in large amounts on a van booking. |
| Tyres | Limited | Up to five car tyres, on or off the rim. |
| Asbestos | Limited | Cement-bonded asbestos from your own home only, double-wrapped with a clear outer layer. Never on a van booking. |
| Trade waste | No | Including a landlord’s waste, a builder’s, or a house you’re clearing that isn’t yours. |
Also taken: garden waste, wood and chipboard, metal, glass, cardboard, carpets, electricals and TVs, paint, oils, batteries, textiles, books and gas bottles. Black bags may have to be sorted on site to take the recycling out.
The council’s pages don’t say whether DIY waste is charged; see the council’s page.

Can’t get a slot, no van, or it won’t take it?
Post the job with a few photos and checked, licensed collectors quote to take it away. You choose, and you pay once it’s gone.
On every job we check the collector’s licence, insurance and ID, record their number plate and where your waste is going before it leaves, issue your waste transfer note, and pay them only once we’ve seen proof it was disposed of legally.
