Shidas Lane recycling centre, Oldbury: opening times, booking and what it takes

Sandwell has one tip, on Shidas Lane in Oldbury, for everyone from West Bromwich to Rowley Regis. Serco runs it for the council.

Every visit is booked, there’s no height barrier, and it isn’t taking fridges or freezers for now.

Checked on 9 October 2026

This centre is run by Serco, for Sandwell Council, not scrapmarket. Check the council’s page before you go.

Before you go

Fridges and freezers aren’t accepted until further notice, because of a UK-wide shortage of places to treat them.

The tip gets very busy at weekends and on bank holidays. If your time is full, keep checking: slots open up to the last minute.

Booking and proof of address

All visits are booked online, for every kind of vehicle, up to two weeks ahead or on the day if slots are left. In a car without a trailer you can book as many slots as you like. You can change or cancel until 6.30am on the day.

You need a Sandwell postcode to book. At the gate, show your booking reference and one piece of ID for the address the waste came from; staff can turn you away without it.

Book on the council’s site

Vans, trailers and the height barrier

Vans, pick-ups and cars with trailers can book one slot every four weeks, so book the slot before you hire the van. There’s no permit. Vehicles over 3.5 tonnes, or longer than 6 metres including a trailer, are turned away. Mobility vans don’t count towards the four-week limit, but there’s only one slot an hour for them.

There’s no height barrier.

Can’t get a slot, no van, or it won’t take it?

Post the job with a few photos and checked, licensed collectors quote to take it away. You choose, and you pay once it’s gone.

On every job we check the collector’s licence, insurance and ID, record their number plate and where your waste is going before it leaves, issue your waste transfer note, and pay them only once we’ve seen proof it was disposed of legally.

Tips for a smooth visit

  • Book, and bring your reference and ID for the address the waste is from.
  • Van or trailer: one visit every four weeks, so make it count.
  • Seal plasterboard and other dusty waste in bags at home.
  • Put good furniture in the reuse van rather than the skip.
