Stourbridge recycling centre: opening times, booking and what it takes

Dudley borough has one permanent tip, on Birmingham Street in Stourbridge. It’s for Dudley residents, and every visit is booked online.

The council owns it and contracts out the day-to-day running. It isn’t taking fridges or freezers at the moment.

This centre is run by Dudley Council, not scrapmarket. Check the council’s page before you go.

Before you go

Fridges, freezers and other cooling appliances aren’t accepted until further notice, the council says, because of a national shortage of places to treat them.

On some Saturdays the council also runs car-only pop-up tips at Lister Road depot in Dudley and Northway depot in Sedgley, booked on the same form. Its pages give conflicting days for them, so check the dates there.

Booking and proof of address

Every visit is booked on the council’s form, which opens 14 days ahead. Only the registration you booked is let in that day; you can change it, or the booking, from the link in your email. There are separate choices for cars, for vans and trailers, and for vehicles over 2 metres. Cars towing a trailer book too.

The form says you may be asked for proof of address when you arrive, without saying which documents count, so bring a bill or your driving licence. There’s no access on foot.

Vans, trailers and the height barrier

Vans, pick-ups and cars with trailers need a van and trailer e-permit, applied for online at least 10 working days before. It gives 12 visits in 12 months, one per household and vehicle, and you may be asked to sign a trade waste disclaimer. Vans and pick-ups can be up to 3.5 tonnes; trailers single-axle with a load area up to 1.8 metres. Luton and curtain-sided vans, twin-axle trailers, horse boxes and vans towing trailers are refused, hired or not.

A panel van hired for two days or less doesn’t need a permit; show the hire agreement. The height barrier at the car park is 6ft 6in, and it’s opened on Wednesdays for taller vehicles.

Can’t get a slot, no van, or it won’t take it?

Post the job with a few photos and checked, licensed collectors quote to take it away. You choose, and you pay once it’s gone.

On every job we check the collector’s licence, insurance and ID, record their number plate and where your waste is going before it leaves, issue your waste transfer note, and pay them only once we’ve seen proof it was disposed of legally.
