Kings Norton recycling centre: opening times, booking and what it takes

Kings Norton recycling centre on Lifford Lane serves the south of Birmingham. It’s being rebuilt, and it stays open while the work goes on, but with fewer slots, a shorter list of what it takes, and no vans or trailers.

Veolia runs it for the council, and says it’s meant for residents who live near it.

Before you go

The rebuild is due to finish in October 2027. Until then there are fewer booking slots, no vans or trailers (small trailers included), and some things aren’t taken at all, such as washing machines and other large appliances, and asbestos.

If you can’t get a slot, Veolia suggests the other Birmingham centres, and says Castle Bromwich has the most room.

These are the strike-time hours the council and Veolia give for every Birmingham centre; Kings Norton keeps them through its rebuild. No last entry time is published, and nothing is said about the hours after the strike.

Bank holidays aren’t covered. For Christmas 2025 the centres shut on Christmas Day and Boxing Day only; nothing is out yet for 2026.

Booking and proof of address

Every visit is booked, on Veolia’s car booking form, and only cars can book while the site is rebuilt. You can book from 2 hours to 6 days ahead and hold two bookings at once. Slots are 15 minutes.

Bring proof of a Birmingham address: a driving licence, a council tax bill or a utility bill, printed or on screen. No proof, no entry.

Vans, trailers and the height barrier

No vans and no trailers of any size can use Kings Norton during the redevelopment. For a van visit, book another Birmingham centre: Tyseley if the van is over 2.1 metres tall, since it has no barrier.

Veolia says parking here is reverse parking.

Can’t get a slot, no van, or it won’t take it?

Post the job with a few photos and checked, licensed collectors quote to take it away. You choose, and you pay once it’s gone.

On every job we check the collector’s licence, insurance and ID, record their number plate and where your waste is going before it leaves, issue your waste transfer note, and pay them only once we’ve seen proof it was disposed of legally.

Tips for a smooth visit

  • Book early: there are fewer slots here until 2027.
  • Leave the trailer at home. Even a small one is turned away during the works.
  • Check the redevelopment list before you load up: no big appliances and no asbestos.
  • Reverse in: Veolia says it’s reverse parking here.

Is Kings Norton tip open during the rebuild?
Yes, by booking, in a car, with proof of a Birmingham address. Slots are fewer and some items aren’t taken, so check the list first.

Where can I take a washing machine?
Not to Kings Norton during the works. Other Birmingham centres take large appliances. Or post the job and checked, licensed collectors quote to take it.
