Sutton Coldfield recycling centre: opening times, booking and what it takes

Sutton Coldfield recycling centre is on Norris Way, on the town’s industrial estate. It’s run by Veolia for Birmingham City Council, so it’s for people who pay council tax to Birmingham, Sutton included.

There’s a ReUsers shop on the site, which takes donations and sells restored things.

All five Birmingham centres keep these hours while the bin strike goes on; the council and Veolia call them extended hours. What comes after the strike isn’t published, and there’s no last entry time.

Nor are bank holiday hours. Over Christmas 2025 the centres closed for Christmas Day and Boxing Day; the 2026 dates are still to come.

Booking and proof of address

Every visit needs a booking, cars included. Book a car up to 6 days ahead or a van up to 7, from 2 hours before; you get a 15-minute slot by email within the hour, and can hold two at once.

Bring something that shows your Birmingham address: a driving licence, council tax bill or utility bill. A phone screen is fine. People on foot can’t use the tip.

Vans, trailers and the height barrier

Use the van booking form for a van, a minibus, or a trailer larger than 6ft by 4ft. A smaller trailer goes on a car booking. Hire vans are welcome with the hire agreement. Van slots don’t take asbestos, tree trunks, plaster or big loads of soil and rubble, and commercial vehicles are refused.

The barrier is at 2.1 metres. Tyseley is the Birmingham centre with no barrier.

Its opening hours aren’t published, and Veolia asks people not to leave donations at the gates when it’s shut.

The council’s pages don’t say whether DIY waste is charged; see the council’s page.

Can’t get a slot, no van, or it won’t take it?

Post the job with a few photos and checked, licensed collectors quote to take it away. You choose, and you pay once it’s gone.

On every job we check the collector’s licence, insurance and ID, record their number plate and where your waste is going before it leaves, issue your waste transfer note, and pay them only once we’ve seen proof it was disposed of legally.

Tips for a smooth visit

  • Book first: even cars need a slot here.
  • Keep reusable furniture apart and offer it to the ReUsers shop.
  • Don’t leave donations outside when the shop is closed.
  • Reverse in: Veolia says it’s reverse parking at Sutton Coldfield.

Questions

Do I need to book Sutton Coldfield tip?
Yes. Every visit is booked online, for cars and vans, and you need proof of a Birmingham address at the gate.
When is Sutton Coldfield tip open?
Monday to Friday 7am to 9pm, and weekends 8am to 6pm, while the bin strike lasts. The council hasn’t said what the hours will be afterwards.
Is there a reuse shop at Sutton Coldfield tip?
Yes, the ReUsers shop on site takes donations and sells restored items. Its opening hours aren’t published on the council’s or Veolia’s pages.
Can I bring waste from a job I’m doing?
No. The tip refuses trade waste, including a builder’s, a landlord’s, or a house clearance that isn’t your own home. That waste needs a licensed carrier: post it on scrapmarket.
