Derby sits on the River Derwent, and in 1717 it was home to the first water-powered silk mill in Britain. The city holds the southern end of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site, and when the railways arrived it became the Midland Railway's headquarters. Rolls-Royce still makes engines here, and although it has had a cathedral since 1927, Derby only became a city in 1977.

Untangling the spare room

A house in Darley Abbey, once a mill village, or a family loft in Littleover that's been filling up for years: post the job for free, and licensed, insured local carriers send you quotes. You pay once your waste has been collected, and every job comes with a waste transfer note, kept in your account.
