Luton takes its name from its river: in the 8th century it was Lygetun, the town on the River Lea. From the 17th century it made hats, which is why the football club are still the Hatters, and in 1905 Vauxhall Motors arrived. The museums in Wardown Park and Stockwood Park tell the story, and the grand house at Luton Hoo was first designed by Robert Adam.

Hats off to a clear loft

Emptying a Victorian terrace in High Town, near the old hat works, or clearing a family home in Wigmore before the move? Post the job for free and licensed, insured local carriers send you quotes. You pay once your waste has been collected, and every job comes with a waste transfer note, kept in your account.
